visual interest for only $29
About a year or so ago we took on the project of a much-needed mudroom makeover. Our mudroom/laundry room gets more action than most of the house and is our smallest space. NOTE TO SELF: If I ever build again this will be a much larger part of the home!
The full blog post of the makeover can be found HERE. We love how it came out but if felt like it was missing something. I really hope to one day do a marble herringbone backsplash, but our budget around the holidays this year didn't allow for that type of project. So we opted for a self-adhesive wallpaper from Target. Since I have zero skills in the wallpaper department, a $29 roll of this worked perfectly!
Below are some pics of the area before the wallpaper went up...

This product was easy to apply. I did it by myself and in all honesty could have probably used an extra set of hands. To do this I used a pencil, measuring tape, plastic smoother (for the air bubbles) and pair of scissors (you could also use a razor blade).
First, I measured the wall space and cut the length I needed from the roll. Then in small sections, I used the plastic smoother tool to smooth the paper to the wall and got any air pockets out of the way - this was the hardest part in my opinion. In total it took about 30 minutes.
There are tons of different options for this type of self-adhesive wallpaper from Target. In fact, this Buffalo Plaid design comes in several different colors. Check out my top picks from Target's selection:

I'm glad I took on this project and can see myself using this product in other spaces in my home. For me, I won't use it on any large spaces but it makes a great accent. I could also see where it would be fun to use on furniture that you don't want to permanently paint or alter. I'm thinking that's where I will go with it next.
In the end, it added character and texture to our mudroom and for only $29 I won't feel bad if I tire of it and remove it at some point. Check out the end result - I hope you like it as much as I do!!!
